A Bit About Me

I come from a small town of about 500 people in rural North Carolina where I spent my childhood running around in the woods and going to bonfires. I have always dealt with anxiety, but during my senior year of high school I developed panic disorder. Despite my difficulties, I left home to study public health at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I immediately fell in love with the program and went on to complete my Masters in Public Health there as well.

Throughout my studies, I worked as a research assistant on a diverse range of qualitative studies from gun violence prevention to methadone treatment stigma. Another result of my time at UNCG was my marriage! My husband is from Italy, so we have since moved back to his home and I recently gave birth to my son Elliot. After my own experiences of mental illness stigma when giving birth in a different country, I feel more dedicated than ever to destigmatizing mental health and understanding how our cultures and language impact the ways we perceive mental illness.
